Gwyn Bennett
Best Selling Author
Hi, thank you for taking the time to look me up. This photo is of me and my writing companion, Molly dog.
I’ve written over twenty books, but apart from the (somewhat dubious) assistance that Molly gives me, that’s only possible because of YOU. The characters and stories I write can’t come to life without you reading my books and sharing their dramas in your own imaginations, so thank you for your support.
Just for clarity, you can be sure that all my books are written only by my human self (Molly gives moral support). I’m not AI averse, I use it as a tool to streamline some of the other boring things I need to do, but I will always try to use other fellow human creators such as photographers and editors as I believe that creativity, especially human-centric stories that speak to the soul, can only be written by a human.
My Story
I began writing books before I’d even reached my tenth birthday. I was an avid reader and literally read our local library dry of fairy stories before graduating to more grown up novels and found my love of thrillers and crime books through Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and then a little bit of horror with Stephen King. I still read avidly, and enjoy a variety of genres. Do please send me your recommendations as I’m always looking for the next great read and to being introduced to a new author.
My mind was made up from that early age, that I wanted to be a writer. However, I realised that I perhaps needed to live life a bit first and also, quite critically, be able to earn a living and so I decided to become a journalist. I have always been a bit of a workaholic and very determined (my husband might call it stubborn!) and I worked hard and was lucky to have a fantastic career, achieving my dream of becoming a UK national news presenter with both the BBC and ITN, and even international newsreader through the BBC’s World Service Television. I presented a variety of TV programmes and enjoyed the buzz of live television. My journalistic career was under the name Gwyn Jones. I set up a magazine publishing company at one stage in my life, turned my hand to freelance writing for national newspapers and magazines when our children arrived, but throughout all this I never stopped writing my fiction stories.
If you watch the Hollywood movie, ‘The Queen’, you will see me in my newsreading days at ITN. It’s a quick clip towards the beginning and I didn’t even know they’d included it until somebody told me! Unfortunately I didn’t get invited to the Oscars or Baftas.
The next chapter
It wasn’t until 2016 that my first book was published, Islands. It had taken me a couple of years to write, countless major rewrites, but I shall always be very proud of that first novel which instantly became an Amazon best seller. By then, we had moved to Jersey. (Unfortunately, we aren’t rich tax exiles, my husband was born here and always wanted to return when he had his family and children, we’d met in the UK.) It’s a lovely island and a great place to bring children up).
I carried on working as a TV journalist and newsreader with BBC Channel Islands TV, before deciding that the hours really weren’t conducive to spending time with my family (newsreaders are always at work while everyone else is at home watching them in the evenings) and so I trained in Public Relations and later Digital Marketing and went into that line of work for a bit. But yes, you guessed it, all the time I was also writing books in my spare time.
It was towards the end of 2019 (right before the pandemic) that I was able to go full time writing. I have hundreds more books in me yet to write, and not just psychological or crime thrillers, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
Thank you again for coming on this journey with me. I hope you enjoy meeting my characters and sharing their stories, please do get in touch and let me know and I’m always very grateful for reviews on wherever you purchase or hang out on social sites. I’d also love it if you sign up to my book newsletter, that way I can send you offers and keep you up to date with new releases. You can unsubscribe at any time and I will never pass your emails on to anyone else.
Until the next time, happy reading
Gwyn
